Bahria Town Islamabad The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather advisory predicting wind-thunderstorms and heavy rainfall across upper and central parts of the country starting this weekend, driven by incoming monsoon currents and a westerly wave. The severe weather system is expected to intensify from Monday, September 14, 2026, bringing widespread rain, localized flash floods, and potential landslides through September 17.

 

According to the PMD advisory, the atmospheric disturbance will affect regional weather dynamics across multiple territories:

 

  • Kashmir & Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Intermittent rain, thunderstorms, and hailstorms are forecasted from September 12 to 17 across regions including Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Chitral, Swat, Abbottabad, Peshawar, and surrounding districts.

  • Islamabad & Punjab: Rain and thunderstorms will impact Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Sargodha, Faisalabad, and Multan from September 12 to 17. Downpours will extend to Lahore, Sialkot, Gujranwala, and Sheikhupura between September 14 (evening/night) and September 17.

  • Gilgit-Baltistan: Light to moderate rain with heavy falls at isolated places is expected in Diamir, Hunza, Skardu, and Gilgit.

  • Sindh & Balochistan: While hot and humid conditions will prevail in most districts, scattered wind-thunderstorms are anticipated in Sukkur, Larkana, Karachi, Zhob, and Barkhan between the evening of September 13 and September 16.

Risk Assessment & Public Advisories

The meteorological authority warned of severe urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Peshawar, and Faisalabad between September 14 and 17. Flash flooding in local streams and nullahs is expected across KPK, Kashmir, Murree, Galliyat, and the capital territory. Landslides pose a significant threat to hilly routes in Kashmir, Murree, Galliyat, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

 

Tourists and travelers are urged to avoid unnecessary movement in vulnerable hill stations, while farmers are advised to adjust their agricultural activities according to the forecast.
