Bahria Town Rawalpindi: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast heavy rainfall during tonight and August 21, warning of possible urban flooding, flash flooding and landslides across several parts of the country, including Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

According to the weather forecast, heavy rains may cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, Mardan, Swabi, Peshawar, Nowshera, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot and Lahore. Heavy rainfall may also trigger flooding in local streams and drains across Kashmir, Murree, Galiat and the Islamabad-Rawalpindi region.

The PMD has further warned that landslides may occur in hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galiat and Kashmir during the forecast period.

Rising Water Level in Swan River Raises Concern

In view of the latest meteorological forecast and recent weather conditions, residents of Bahria Town have also been advised to exercise extreme caution around waterways. The water level in the Swan River is continuously rising, while further increases are expected due to heavy rainfall forecast over the coming days.

Residents, particularly those living in or visiting Bahria Town Phase 8, have been urged to follow safety instructions and avoid unnecessary movement near water channels and flood-prone areas.

Safety Precautions for Residents

Residents are advised to take the following precautions:

  • Avoid going near the Swan River or any other watercourse.

  • Stay away from storm drains, water channels and flowing water areas, particularly in Bahria Town Phase 8.

  • Keep children away from rivers, drains and areas where water is accumulating.

  • Do not attempt to cross the Coastal Road, which has been closed as a precautionary measure, and do not remove or cross safety barriers.

  • Avoid crossing floodwater during or immediately after rainfall.

  • Do not approach rivers, drains or other water channels for photography, recreation or entertainment.

  • Remain alert to official weather and emergency advisories and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall.

Residents are particularly urged not to underestimate rapidly rising water levels, as conditions around rivers, drains and low-lying areas can change quickly during heavy rainfall.

Emergency Assistance

In case of an emergency or an abnormal rise in water levels, residents can immediately contact the MSM Control Room and other emergency services through the My Bahria app on their mobile phones.

Authorities and residents are encouraged to remain vigilant throughout the forecast period and take all necessary precautions to protect lives and property as heavy rainfall continues across the region.
